Sarah’s love potion is irresistible, intoxicating, and deadly. This bewitching bouquet of floral flavours from Sarah’s Garden of magic is all you need to charm the object of your desire. The Sarah Sanderson cocktail is perfect for that special someone who doesn’t have their eye on you!
Ingredient Notes
Pomegranate Juice: This intoxicating fruit of the dead can woo even the coldest heart. If three seeds were enough to enslave Persephone in the Underworld, then this pomegranate flavoured simple syrup will be sure to ensnare the object of your desire!
Rose water: Add a little desire and romance to Sarah’s seductive brew with a splash of rose water in the simple syrup. Rose water can be found in the Middle Eastern or Indian sections of the grocery store. If you can’t find rose water, then it’s perfectly fine to leave it out.
Gin: The herbaceous and floral notes characteristic of gin make it the perfect alcohol base in this potent potion.
Elderflower Liqueur: Plucked from Sarah’s garden and carefully brewed, elderflower liqueur has a delicate flavour and aroma. My go-to brand is St. Germaine. Sweet, with an intoxicating fruity and floral bouquet, each bottle of St Germaine contains the essence of up to a 1,000 elderflower blossoms. It is sure to enchant all who sample it!
Lemon juice: Fresh lemon juice provides just enough sour flavour to balance all the captivating aromas.
Egg white: Silky egg whites add a dreamy finish to this enticing elixir. There are of course risks involved with consuming raw egg whites which can be mitigated somewhat with good handling. Take care when handling the eggs as the bacteria responsible for salmonella is usually found on the shell. When separating your egg white try using a slotted spoon, or even clean hands, rather than the broken eggshell. Another option is to use a carton of pasteurized egg whites. This can be helpful for parties where you will be making multiple drinks at a time. I haven’t noticed much of a difference in using the carton egg whites versus fresh when making drinks for a crowd. And if you aren’t willing to take the risk, then this cocktail will still work without the egg white. It just won’t have that creamy quality.
How to make the Sarah Sanderson Cocktail
Prepare the Pomegranate Rose Simple Syrup
In a saucepan, combine the pomegranate juice and sugar. Heat over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the sugar is completely dissolved. Remove from the heat and add the rose water. Let cool completely before using.
Make the cocktail
In a cocktail shaker, add the gin, elderflower liqueur, pomegranate rose simple syrup, fresh lemon juice, and egg whites. Add ice, cover, and shake for 10 to 15 seconds. Be sure to shake very well when using egg whites to fully emulsify it. Strain into a coupe glass, garnish with optional rose bud, and enjoy!

Ingredients
Pomegranate Rose Simple Syrup
- 1 cup pomegranate juice
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 tsp rose water
The Sarah Sanderson Cocktail
- 1 oz gin
- ½ oz elderflower liqueur
- 1 oz Pomegranate Rose Simple Syrup
- ½ oz fresh lemon juice
- 1 oz egg whites* see note
- dried rose buds or rose petals** see note
Instructions
To make the syrup
- In a saucepan, combine the pomegranate juice and sugar. Heat over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the sugar is completely dissolved.
- Remove from the heat and add the rose water. Let cool completely before using.
To make the cocktail
- In a cocktail shaker, add the gin, elderflower liqueur, Pomegranate Rose Simple Syrup, fresh lemon juice, and egg whites. Add ice, cover, and shake for 10 to 15 seconds until very well mixed. Strain into a coupe glass, garnish with optional dried rose bud, and enjoy!
