A Feast in Mordor
BY Alison Wiebe
Journey to the black and desolate land of Mordor for an epic feast to satisfy the primal and savage tastes of the orcs of Mordor!
Join us as we return to JRR Tolkien’s Middle Earth for another epic culinary adventure. This time, we must gather our courage as we venture to the depths of Mordor in search of our next feast.
When it comes to food, hobbits get all the love; and for good reason – they enjoy at least six meals a day! But hobbits are certainly not the only creatures in JRR Tolkien’s world to enjoy a tasty morsel. Long maligned and often misunderstood, the orcs of Middle Earth are due their time in the spotlight. Whether preparing for a battle or heading out on a raiding party, orcs need enough food and drink to keep up their strength. Explore the lesser known cuisine of orcs as we begin our Feast in Mordor.
Mordor Orc Recipes
Orc Draught
The harsh landscape of Mordor certainly limits what foods are readily available for the orc population. Given their clear preference for meat, orcs aren’t too concerned about the lack of vegetation. The near barren lands of Mordor might not boast many fruit orchards but we can imagine that a few hardy brambles, like blackberry, might be able to survive the harsh conditions. Begin your feast with a swig of the fiery revitalizing orc draught!
Molasses Oat “Maggoty” Bread
While it’s no secret that orcs prefer meat to any other food, when rations are sparse they too must sometimes supplement their preferred diet with less interesting items such as this molasses oat “maggoty” bread.
Spice Braised Oxtail and Spicy Pork Sausages with Fennel
An orc feast isn’t complete without a hearty meat dish. Succulent braised oxtail with spicy sausages is just the thing to satisfy the primal and savage tastes of the orcs!
Mount Doom Black Chocolate Cake
This tall and craggy chocolate cake made with black cocoa and a striking lava-red white chocolate ganache is the perfect final course of the orc feast to serve as an offering to Lord Sauron and demonstrate their unwavering commitment to protecting Mount Doom.
