A Culinary Journey in Wonderland

Alice’s adventures in Wonderland begin in pursuit of the White Rabbit and down the rabbit hole. From there, she savours and samples various foods in Wonderland, while simultaneously growing and shrinking with each new treat.

In honour of Lewis Carroll’s whimsical and non-sensical story, let us journey to Wonderland for a culinary adventure and a delightful feast. Together, we will explore the cakes Alice tasted, both sweet and savoury, the intriguing mushroom of the Caterpillar’s forest home, the mysterious stolen tarts of the King and Queen of Hearts, and more! So let’s begin.

Clarified Cherry Custard Cocktail

When Alice arrives at the bottom of the rabbit hole, she finds herself in a tiny room with a key and a bottle of liquid on a table with the invitation of “Drink Me” attached to the bottle. She drinks the contents of the bottle which cause her to shrink small enough to fit into the door. Infused with the flavours of sweet cherries and rich custard, this clarified cocktail is a whimsical, fruity delight. This enchanting elixir won’t shrink you down but it will delight your tastebuds!

Cherry Almond Cake

After shrinking down in size, Alice is dismayed to discover she has left the key to the doorway to the mysterious garden on the table. Just as it looks like Alice won’t be able to reach the key she discovers a box containing a little cake encouraging her to “Eat Me”. It only takes a few bites before Alice begins feel herself grow in size, finally able to reach the sought after key. Inspired by the Clarified Cherry Custard Cocktail we created which caused Alice to shrink in size, this sweet almond scented cake is filled with a fresh cherry filling and topped with swirls of pink frosting. 

Cheese and Chive Potato Puffs

Once in Wonderland, Alice follows the White Rabbit to his house. Inside the house, Alice drinks from a bottle and grows in size, filling the house. Angry and afraid, the White Rabbit and his friends throw rocks at Alice to scare her out. The rocks turn to cakes which Alice eats. Flavoured with a blend of three cheeses and fresh chives, these mashed potato puffs are ideal served with a dollop of sour cream. Alice would no doubt have much preferred to be pelted with these delicate potato cakes rather than the rocks from the White Rabbit’s garden!

Bacon and Spinach Stuffed Mushrooms

As Alice moves deeper into Wonderland, she is greeted by a most curious sight – a caterpillar smoking a hookah. After speaking with the caterpillar, Alice is told that the mushroom in front of her can either make her grow tall or make her grow small. Crisp bacon and fresh spinach are blended into a creamy cheese filling and then stuffed into cremini mushrooms. Topped with a golden, crumbed topping, these stuffed mushrooms are the ideal appetizer for your next feast.

Roasted Cauliflower Leek Soup with Gremolata

Alice’s adventures take her to the tiny home of the Duchess where she encounters the cook preparing a peppery soup. Roasted cauliflower and tender leeks are blended into a smooth and creamy soup which gets a punch of flavour from a spicy and piquant gremolata. With pepper, chili flakes, and fresh garlic, a swirl of this fresh gremolata balances the creamy richness of the soup with a spicy bite.

Butter Poached Lobster on Toast

Arriving at the sea, Alice is introduced to the whimsical lobster quadrille by the Mock Turtle. Alice is enchanted with this dance and is quick to hide the fact that her only interaction with lobsters has been on her dinner plate! Lobster tails gently poached in a luscious butter sauce called a beurre monté is the perfect way to eat this delicate shellfish. The lobster toast is then topped with a generous spoonful of this herb-scented beurre monté.

Blackberry Earl Grey Tarts

Leaving the Mad Hatter tea party, Alice stumbles upon the Queen of Hearts’ croquet ground. It isn’t long after meeting the King and Queen of Hearts that the terrible deed occurs and the Queen’s tarts are stolen. Fresh blackberries are blended into a tangy, jammy filling and spooned into the bottom of the tarts. An earl grey scented pastry cream is lightened with whipped cream and generously swirled over the blackberry filling. One bite and you will understand why these delectable tarts were stolen!
